RapidArc™ AtlantaRapidArc is a form of radiation therapy that allows patients to receive treatment two to eight times faster than other radiation treatments with increased precision, providing a higher standard of care for patients. This treatment can be used to treat many tumors that would be normally be treated with intensity modulated radiation therapy (IMRT). Your doctor will discuss your options with you and help you decide whether or not RapidArc is right for your individual condition.

During the customized RapidArc treatment, the speed of the linear accelerator gantry, shape of the treatment aperture, intensity of the individual radiation beamlets and delivery dose rate are changed to deliver the full dose of treatment in as little as two minutes a day, compared to 10 minutes or longer for traditional radiation therapy. Treatment time determines the length of time that patients must remain still, allowing patients to be more comfortable during treatment. Advanced image-guided radiation therapy capabilities have reduced patient positioning and setup times to as little as five minutes, and total time spent in the treatment room can thus average 10 minutes from entry to exit. Compared to non-RapidArc IMRT treatment plans, this is a 50-60% reduction in the time spent in the treatment room each day.

Our physicians are highly experienced in treating all malignant and benign conditions for which radiation therapy is indicated. If you should have a question about whether or not a particular treatment is offered in our office, please feel free to contact our office by telephone.
